One of the odd realities about the way most doctors treat anxiety, depression and stress, is that they hand out antidepressants, rather than prescribe medications designed to boost your ‘happy hormone’, serotonin and induce relaxation.
Natural therapies and supplements like magnesium oil, are rarely ever considered by the medical profession.
Sometimes, when anxiety is clearly due to a stressful situation that is likely to resolve itself in six weeks or less, doctors will prescribe tranquilizers such as Ativan (lorazempam), Klonopin (clonazepam), Valium (diazepam), or Xanax (alprazolam).
But the effects of these medications tend to wear off with time, requiring the patient to take bigger and bigger doses to achieve the same relief, as they did at the beginning.
Doctors also treat anxiety with anticonvulsants, high blood pressure medications and several of the pre-Prozac antidepressant drugs that were discontinued for treating depression because they aren’t really safe.
I don’t know how you feel about that, but it makes absolutely no sense to me.

So, if you are looking for effective, natural relief from depression and anxiety that lets you retake control of your life, without the severe side effects of prescription drugs, what you need is magnesium oil.
It has powerful, impressive health benefits for an array of health problems besides depression or anxiety.
How Do We Know Magnesium Modulates Depression and Anxiety?
There are over 130 studies in medical literature that confirm magnesium relieves symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress. Many different kinds of stress are known to be relieved by magnesium.
- While it would be unethical to deprive people of magnesium to determine whether they would develop anxiety and depression, laboratory experiments with animals indicate that anxiety can result from magnesium deprivation, as can depression.
- Older persons, understandably, tend to develop anxiety and depression after heart attacks. Russian scientists have confirmed that supplemental magnesium relieves anxiety after heart attack or diagnosis of cardiovascular disease.
- Doctors at the University of Wollongong Clinics in Australia have found that 78% of their patients who suffer anxiety and depression are deficient in magnesium, and that calcium and folic acid deficiencies are also common in people who have anxiety and/or depression.
- Neuroscientists in China found that ‘fear conditioning’, learning to be afraid when presented with a symbol of a dangerous event, for instance, feeling afraid when seeing a picture of a snake, or even a fake-snake, can be counteracted by the growth of new neuron connections in the brain. These new connections are not possible, the scientists found, unless the brain has an adequate supply of magnesium.
- Brain researchers at the University of Innsbruck in Austria found that deprivation of magnesium upsets the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, so that the adrenal glands pour out the stress hormone cortisol all the time. Restoring healthy levels of magnesium stops the excessive production of cortisol.
How Does Magnesium Treat Depression and Anxiety?
Magnesium relieves anxiety by providing the brain with something it needs, rather than by stopping the brain from performing its functions.
As you can see in more detail elsewhere on this site, magnesium reduces muscle pain (and cramps), and helps relieve joint pain caused by arthritis.
Less pain leads to less anxiety.
Magnesium helps the brain create new connections. More connections leads to less fear, and less fear leads to less anxiety and less depression.
And magnesium does things that other supplements don’t.
Kava, for instance, really does relieve anxiety, but by acting in the same way as tranquilizers. Magnesium doesn’t tranquilize you, it helps you to develop the brainpower that enables you to see other possibilities, so that it becomes natural for you to not to be anxious.
Passion-flower really relieves the symptoms of depression and anxiety, but it contains compounds that are Monoamine oxidase (MAOI) inhibitors, that in rare instances can cause severe high blood pressure.
Magnesium lowers blood pressure even while it relieves anxiety.
Magnesium Oil is the Best Way to Get Magnesium
The studies in the medical literature, we talked about earlier, used magnesium in a variety of forms.
They include orally administered magnesium supplements, intravenous magnesium drips, and magnesium sprays. An even better way to take magnesium is with magnesium oil, which is applied directly to the skin.
Why not take a magnesium supplement orally?
Because when magnesium has to pass through the digestive tract, it picks up water.
This is a good thing if you are constipated, but when the passage of waste through your lower digestive tract speeds up, your body has less time to absorb the magnesium, because you will more likely get diarrhea.
And importantly, depending on the form of magnesium used in a supplement, up to 92% may be lost.
However, magnesium oil does not have to be processed by your digestive tract, because it is absorbed through your skin.
As long as you wash it off or sweat it off, it stays on your skin to provide a steady supply of the ‘usable’ magnesium, your body needs in the form it needs.
Won’t Magnesium Oil Stain Your Clothes?
Magnesium oil isn’t really an oil. It is a highly concentrated solution of magnesium chloride, and other useful trace minerals, dissolved in water. So much magnesium is dissolved in the water used to make the solution, that it feels slippery or ‘oily’ to the touch.
There is nothing in this product that will stain your clothes, and it is always possible to dilute it with water.
Simply putting a little magnesium oil on your hands and using it like hand lotion several times a day will give your nervous system a boost.
Even better, use magnesium oil in massage, all over your body, and let the oil dry on your skin. After a few hours, take a relaxing warm shower to remove excess salt. Use magnesium oil as often as you can.
You can’t overdose on the magnesium this way, and you will get many benefits that other natural medicines and prescription medicines cannot provide.
